This is an extension of Unit 12, The Numbers. The Counting Ruler teaches the
concept of counting from 1 to 10 using the hands with fingers and strings. The child
places several small objects near the ruler, extends one string to each item beginning
with the first string to the right and then continuing to the left. Then he or she
reads off the last number, the largest number used, which just happens to be the
quantity! The concept of counting becomes very clear.
